View Repair Breakeven Hours

Note: The Repair Breakeven calculation is dynamically updated as repair lines are added, allowing you to determine if it is more cost-effective to repair or replace a part. This includes changes to the Labor Type, Total Units, Part Price, Tax, or Markups/Discounts.

Tip: If the number of repair labor hours is more than the breakeven units, the cost of replacing the part with a new or recycled part may be more cost-effective than repairing it.

1. Click the Parts or Split View icon in the estimate editor to add parts and labor (repair lines) to the estimate.
2. Select a part and click View Details.
3. Select the line for the damaged part to be repaired or replaced.
   
4. Select a different Part Type in the list to view the Repair Breakeven comparison for a different part type.
   
   
5. For parts with only one option, you can see the Repair Breakeven in the image.
   
   

1. Add a repair line to the estimate and set the Labor Operation to Repair.

   If a high amount of labor units and the cost of repair is excessive, Mitchell Cloud Estimating prompts you to switch to Remove/Replace labor operation.

   

2. Select Switch to R&R. The part will now be replaced instead of repaired. The screen moves to the R&R section.

   An automated explanation appears in the Explanation text box. (i.e., Lower of R&R vs Repair of 4 Units).

3. Add any additional details to the window.
4. Click Add Line to commit the R&R line to the estimate.

On the Parts Tab of the Estimate Editor, changing costly Repair operations into Remove/Replace (R&R) when the cost of repair exceeds the replacement cost is automated with the two features below. These features are also available for Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) parts.

Note: If the Part Price of the Repair & Replace (R&R) operation or Labor Units of the Repair or PDR operation are unavailable, no Repair Breakeven is recommended. Mitchell Cloud Estimating displays an Unable to Calculate message under % of Replacement or N/A under Recommendation in the Repair or PDR Breakeven footer when this occurs.

View the Percent of Replacement

When a part is chosen for Repair, the Repair or PDR Breakeven calculation automatically displays on the part details window when adding parts and labor (repair lines) to an estimate. The Repair or PDR Breakeven assists you with making a better choice between repair and replace by automatically comparing the percentage cost of the two operations.

The Percent of Replacement calculation section of the Part Details window shows the percentage cost great than or less than the cost of a new part. This applies to Repair or Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) labor operations. The resulting calculation will recommend the labor operation of Keep as Repair, Keep as PDR, or Switch to R&R in order to create more cost-effective estimates.

If the Part Price of the Repair & Replace (R&R) operation or Labor Units of the Repair or PDR operation are unavailable, no Repair Breakeven is recommended. Mitchell Cloud Estimating displays an Unable to Calculate message under % of Replacement or N/A under Recommendation in the Repair or PDR Breakeven footer when this occurs.

Repair Breakeven

Note: The minimum threshold is set to 100% by default but on the Repair Breakeven sub-section of the Estimate Profile Calculations tab, it can be custom set anywhere from 50% to 100% as desired.

Repair Breakeven is available when the Repair operation is chosen. The two recommendations are:

• Keep as Repair - The cost to repair is cheaper than the cost of replacing the part

• Switch to R&R - The cost of repairing the part is either equal to or more expensive than replacing and its recommended to switch out the repair operation. Click the hyperlink to update the repair to an R&R operation for the estimate.

PDR Breakeven

Note: PDR Breakeven settings are configured in the Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) section of the Calculations tab of the Estimate Profile.

PDR Breakeven is available when the PDR operation is chosen. The two recommendations are:

• Keep as PDR - The total cost to keep the PDR is cheaper than the cost of replacing the part

• Switch to R&R - Total cost of the R&R operation is lower than the cost for the PDR. Click the hyperlink to update the repair to an R&R operation for the estimate.

View the Cost of Repairing vs. Replacing Window

The Percent of Replacement window, you can view the breakeven analysis details of a part repair. It displays a breakdown for repair, PDR, and replace equations where the percentage of replacement is derived from.

In order to understand how Mitchell Cloud Estimating calculated the percent of replacement value, select the colored percentage value or information icon under the % of Replacement column on the Repair Breakeven section of the Part Detail section. The Percent of Replacement window displays, breaking down the cost of repair versus the cost of replacement values and costs.

When the percentage exceeds 100%, the window recommends you switch to R&R.

Note: This window is also displays the Cost of PDR when its set as a labor operation on the estimate.
